For the second consecutive year the Alpha Delta chapter is a finalist for the Maxwell Award, the award given to the most outstanding Phi Kappa Tau chapter. The Alpha Delta chapter won this award last year for the first time since the chapter was first chartered in 1925. In the final round the brothers attending the 58th Annual Convention in Loiusville, KY will give a presentation and go through a question and answer session on Friday, August 8 about how the chapter lives out the mission statement of Phi Kappa Tau.

For all alumni the chapter needs a representative from the graduate council present at the Convention, which runs from August 6 to 10. Details for the Convention can be found by following this link: http://link.phikappatau.org/content.aspx?item=The%20Link/Content/Programs/Convention.xml

IM Hockey Regular Season Finale

Phi Tau had its last intramural hockey game of the season against Phi Kappa Theta on Thursday. After falling behind 1-0 halfway through the first period, Alex Greenwald responded with nice goal to tie the game. After falling behind again 2-1, Tim Sutcliffe responded by scoring off of a Phi Kap giveway. In the second period Tim had two more goals to finish off the natural hat trick. Phi Kap fought back to make it 4-3, but smart defensive play and solid goaltending by <font color="#9900

Brotherhood Board and Appointed Positions

The newly formed Brotherhood Board of Phi Kappa Tau finally set its membership in the past few days. Jason Lau will run the board as the Brotherhood Chair. Joining him will be Senior Adam Goodrich, Junior Connor Burke, Sophomore Paul Hay, and Freshman Tim Sutcliffe.

This Brotherhood Board was designed to strengthen our fraternal bonds of brotherhood. Board members will be responsible for planning certain brotherhood events throughout the semester and reaching out to individual brothers to see how Phi Tau can help them and they can help Phi Tau. The Brotherhood Board will meet regularly to discuss what actions they will take with regard to the fraternity as a whole and to "Brothers-In-Need" individually.

7th Annual Phi-K A Success

On Saturday November 3rd, the Brothers of the Alpha Delta held their 7th Annual Phi-K 5-K Run for the Kids. An event that has happened yearly since the Chapter was rechartered, this year's Phi-K pulled in an estimated $1000 for Hole in the Wall Camps, approximately enough money to pay for half of a camper's costs.

The Brothers of Alpha Delta would like to thank all sponsors, donors, and participants for helping to make this year's race a success. Congratulations are also in order for Mark Grogan, who broke the previous men's course record with a time of 16:24.0.

Phi Tau Powers Through IM Racquetball

On Saturday October 27, Phi Tau continued its streak of IM racquetball prowess by putting two men in the finals of the fraternity singles group A bracket. Drew Nassal and Davorin (Cro) Skender each battled through three tough rounds to face off in the final match. Drew's outstanding agility and Cro's exceptional racket handling allowed them to climb through the rest of the field and battle in an exciting final match. After two games in the best-out-of-three match, Cro took the victory. In other racquetball action, Matt Collins stepped up to play in the tournament, losing in the second round of the group A bracket to a tough opponent.

Last night, Phi Tau associated 6 new brothers. Tim Sutcliffe, Mike Regan, Shane Lu, David Karnick, Mike Grese, and Justin Fisher were associated in front of a large gathering of guests and brothers. Ethan Engle, Phi Tau's chaplain, had decided to make sure this association was actually a public event, in contrast to past associations, where no guests were explicitly invited. Tim, Mike, Mike, and Justin are freshmen, while Shane and David are sophomores. Phi Tau welcomes them them into our circle, and hopes they find a permanent home here.

In addition to having several Brothers individually recognized for their participation in Order of Omega, Gamma Sigma Alpha, and as Recruitment Ambassadors, the Chapter itself was recognized for its outstanding performance in several fields. The Brothers took home the sportsmanship award in recognition of the Chapter's conduct on and off the field during IM games. Phi Tau also placed second in the overall race for the All Sports Cup.

Casino Night

On Saturday, March 24th, Phi Tau held their annual Casino Night to raise money for Boggy Creek, a Hole in the Wall camp in Florida for terminally ill children. This year, the theme for the night was chosen to be “Casablanca”, a 1942 movie. To decorate for the theme, posters of cast members from the movie were put up on the walls, the lighting was dimmed through the use of desk lamps, and paper streamers were hung from the ceilings and across the door.

The night itself featured several tables featuring three main casino games, craps, roulette, and black jack, for the guests to spend their chips on. The roulette table was sometimes a little slow, but it is a classic casino game that is easy to pick up. The craps table kept a fair amount of patrons around it for the duration of the night, drawing them in by the intrigue of the complicated game. Black jack, always a favorite, ran four tables which were kept full either by love of the game, or perhaps some generous dealing by the dealers. In addition, guests were able to play poker or other card games on the side. The night also included guest appearances by local singing groups Case in Point and Bigger than a Bread Box.

Last Friday and Saturday, the annual intramural indoor soccer tournament was held. Phi Tau continued their recent string of soccer domination by finishing 3rd overall and 1st among fraternities. Last year at this time, Phi Tau was one of the last 4 teams in the winner's bracket. This year, Phi Tau made it to the finals of the winner's bracket before losing to the eventual champions. Here are the scores of the games we played:

Win over Fudan 5-0

Win over Sigma Nu 3-1

Win over FC Weatherhead 2-1

Loss to Willabee's 4-2

Loss to FC Weatherhead 6-1

Early season IM floor hockey wins

After our first two games of the IM floor hockey season, Phi Tau is sitting with a 2-0 record.

Our first victory came against Sig Ep, a tough opponent. It was extremely close all the way through the game. Sig Ep scored early in the first half but Phi Tau evened it up before the end of the half. In the second half both defenses would not let up, but two quick Phi Tau goals near the end of the game sealed it for the good guys.

Last night Phi Tau took on Sigma Chi. They brought some physical play that threw us off in the beginning, but some pre-game trash talking got some of us fired up and once we figured them out, our offense couldn't be stopped. 7-0 win for Phi Tau.

On the night of Monday, February 26, six of the brothers traveled to the top of the hill on Southside to serenade to the new members of Phi Sigma Rho. The brothers impressed the sisters with their renditions of "You're the Dream Girl of Phi Kappa Tau", the Gummy Bears theme, "My Girl", and from the 2005 Greek Sing "Phi Tau's There for You". All in attendance had a wonderful time.

Phi Kappa Tau Hockey Scores!

The brothers of the Alpha Delta chapter scored a victory in their first hockey game of the season, 3-1, against Sigma Phi Epsilon. Goals were provided by Shardule Shah and Jon Lux (two). Fantastic goaltending came courtesy of Drew Nassal. The main strategy of the game consisted of keeping everyone fresh by substituting every three minutes. There were two forward lines and two defense lines.

The two forward lines were Jon Lux/Mike Kowalski and Ethan Engle/Matt Collins. The two defense lines were Mike Rienzo/Joe Dickman and Shardule Shah/Alex Greenwald. Adam Goodrich stayed for the duration of the match to provide moral support. The game was a tough match with much (gentlemanly) pushing and shoving, but in the end Phi Tau came out on top due to constant pressure on the offensive end and control of the neutral zone.

Phi Tau Claims Two Awards

Feb. 22, 2007 -

Periodically, the judicial board of Case IFC accepts nominations for the Creed and Values Award. This award is an opportunity for the Greek Life community at Case Western Reserve University to recognize those individuals and chapters that have demonstrated their creed and the values contained in it through their deeds and words.

This past evening at the bi-weekly IFC meeting the winners for the Creed and Values Award were announced. Phi Tau brought home two awards, that for exemplary individual (Michael McAlister, Lambda class) and outstanding chapter.

Brotherhood Meeting!

Last night's Brotherhood Meeting was held in Browntown (Suite 601). Brotherhood chair Jason Lau discussed various topics relating to the structure and health of the fraternity. The main issue at hand was accommodating associates and brothers who may not be able to live on the Phi Tau floor due to the fact that space on the floor is in high demand. Adam Goodrich and Connor Burke will work on a solution to that potential problem so that everyone is happy about where they end up living next year.

In addition, some of the meeting revolved around brothers who may be overexerting themselves. The goal is to ensure that each brother has the proper support system in times of academic and/or personal stress. While the main goal was to establish that each brother has his own way of doing things, he should know that there are 60+ people who will fully back him no matter the situation.
